Esmeraldas province (see map) lies at the northern tip of Ecuador, bordering Carchi and Imbabura provinces to the east; Pichincha, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Manabí provinces to the south; Pacific Ocean to the west; and Colombia to the north.
