Each country has different requirements and restrictions regarding tourist visas, thus we recommend you consult with your Embassy or Consulate. For North Americans, entering Panama requires a valid passport, visa or tourist card, which can be issued through your airline or at Tocumen International Airport for $5.00. The tourist card is valid for 30 days, renewable in Panama City for an additional two months. In order to extend you visit in Panama you must visit the Ministerio de Gobierno & Justicia, which is located on Calle 29, between Avenida Peru and Cuba - the entrance is on the corner of Avenida Cuba. The office is open from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Once inside, proceed to the section titled Movimento Migratorio, which is located in the rear portion of the building. You will need to complete a form provided by the Immigration Department, provide 2 passport photos, and supply copies of your passport - you must present copies of the page(s) that contain your photo and those that reveal your most recent arrival date. The cost to renew your passport is $15.00, and the process can be completed the same day.

If you stay in Panama more than 90 days on a tourist visa you are in the country illegally. If you find yourself in this situation and wish to leave you can do the following - present your passport at the same location, at which time you will be required to pay a fine (the fine is calculated on the amount of time you've stayed over the 90 days you've been afforded). Once the fine has been paid you will receive a receipt and permission to depart the country within 8 days. If you do not leave within 3 days you will need to pay an additional fine before departing.
