The Ecological Farm is comprised of 6 Kms of trails, divided up into 4 different trails, all of which are in very good condition, Just 10 minutes from Santa Elena, main town of Monteverde, this transitional dry-moist forest is unique in that you can find bird and mammal species from both ecosystems, i.e. birds like toucans, manakins, trogons, quetzals, and mammals like agoutis, coati moundis, 2 toed sloths and squirrels. On a clear day there are views of the Gulf of Nicoya ( Pacific Ocean ).
The Farm's owner normally looks for animals during the early morning hours, but it's always good to ask if there is anything to see close by. Night tours are offered daily, and are called the Twilight Tour . They start at 5:15 p.m. and finish between 7:15 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. During this hike you'll have the opportunity to see tarantulas, porcupines and bats.
It's important to bring a flash light and warm clothes, as the evening hours can be cold and damp.
Rates: Adults - $7.00, Students - $5.00, Children (between 6 - 12) - $4.00, Children under 6 do not pay entrance fee. Guided tour rates 2.5 hours $15.00. Twilight night tour $ 14.00.
